This installation was an experiment in presentation of work, exploring how my paintings fit into a domestic setting, now that we are all working from home. The confined space takes inspiration from Louise Bourgeois’ work, Cells 1989. Confinement, incorporates the works Pink 2019, and Torment 2020, along with various bedding and clothes horses used as the main structure. This typical child-like “den” construction is a play on how the paintings themselves are partly influenced by childhood. It creates a cosy and comfortable space where the viewer is confronted directly with the paintings, looking up at the representation of a forest. A natural light source shines through the paintings in beams, similar to when it glimpses through trees. In a real forest, the space is dense and you are surrounded, with these towering structures looming above you. With this installation I aim to re-create an interpretation of the feeling of being in the forest.
