Dye/20.04.20
This work explores using subtle tie-dye patterns as a background in paintings. It also explores the sculptures relationship to nature and how they awkwardly slump and fall amongst the surroundings. As displayed in the images below, the yellow soft sculptures sits clumsily in the grass and wraps itself around, consuming and suffocating the flowers. The similar colour palette between the painting and sculptures is aiming to connect the installation. Using fabric elements stitched directly onto the painting also aids this, drawing the eye upwards in a zig-zag pattern, following bursts of colour.

The images below show a glimpse into the process of dying the fabrics I use for paintings and sculptures. One piece of the tie-dye fabric was used for Dye, 2020, and the other fabrics I am using for multiple paintings and sculptures towards the final portfolio piece. Since being in quarantine and working from home my practice has become even more intertwined with the domestic and daily routine. The labour of this process is evident in the work and further emphasised by it being displayed in my home.
