Garden Studies/23.04.20

These works include a series of three paintings all acrylic on loose canvas. They were made simultaneously whilst sat outside amongst the overgrown grasses and weeds. Across the surface of the works are visible traces of the environment they were made in. Earth, leaves, and dried grasses are scattered through the paint creating interesting textures and earthy tones of colour.
Whilst being sat in this environment I felt the urge to really engage with it. Leaves were used to print with and as stencils, leaving negative space and outlines across the painting, showing a trace of what was there. I was inspired by artists such as Vivian Suter and her process of working. These canvases are the beginning of works being put towards an installation for our final portfolio.
