Haze/04.03.20.
The process of this piece began with colouring the canvas. The bright, stained effect in the background of the piece was created with letting ink bleed across the fabric. This left a beautiful, blotchy haze pattern that worked for abstracting the backdrop of the forest scene figuratively depicted over the top in acrylic paint. The style of this painting reminds me of a cartoon illustration, taking inspiration from some of the backdrops seen in early Disney films such as Beauty and the Beast, 1991.
Representing these scenes as stand alone pieces instead of just backdrops to a story switches the focus and allows the viewer to observe the landscape. The environment is void of any movement or human interaction, and explores an unknown narrative.
